WHAT ARE THE STAGES OF OUR TREATMENT?

Before starting treatment, we must first diagnose the cause of the oral dryness, as well as its extent and severity. The clinical process has 3 key stages: diagnosis, treatment and monitoring.

Diagnosis

At the first consultation, patients provide their medical details (patient history) and a series of procedures are performed to obtain an etiological diagnosis: sialometry or saliva flow measurement (when resting and stimulated); various radiodiagnostic and scanning techniques, such as sialography, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Treatment

There is no “one size fits all” treatment for dry mouth. The right treatment will be the most up-to-date and efficient for the cause detected, and will depend on the individual factors and expectations of the patient that are gathered from the diagnosis.

Monitoring

The monitoring stage begins after the remission of xerostomia; it is needed in order to instruct the patient on preventative measures and procedures for ensuring the durability of the results.
