Biosniffing or the “electronic nose” and gas chromatography

From this multidisciplinary perspective, the Halitosis Unit uses the latest technology to diagnose the cause of the problem, such as biosniffing, or the “electric nose”, and gas chromatography, a method of analysis that separates the gases contained in an air sample by selective adsorption.

These molecular-based devices can identify the gases present in human breath (to date over 3,000 compounds have been detected) making it possible to choose the appropriate treatment for tackling the cause of the bad breath.

Laser removal of tonsil stones

Tonsil stones are a common cause of halitosis. They are whitish foul-smelling chunks that form as a result of the decomposition of food debris and can sometimes become lodged in the crevices of the parenchyma (tonsillar crypts) found in many individuals.

The top and middles layers of the tonsils can be removed using a laser, getting rid of the crypts and tonsil stones. It is a quick, painless and blood-free procedure.
